So, you’ve got the website… now what? Having a website is a great tool to market your business, but it’s not going to happen all by itself. It’s like having a hammer and nails. You can let it gather dust in a shed, or you can build something of value that you can sell. Here are my top tips to get more feet to your website, and ultimately sales leads:
Google Business Profile
Setting up a Google Business Profile is one of the first things you should do. Here, you can list all your services and products, your contact details, website, location and business hours. This is also where your clients can give you reviews. In my experience, the more reviews, the higher your position when someone searches for your services in the area that you operate. In most cases, Google lists the area results/listings before it shows the rest of the rank-based search results.
SEO
Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website from Search Engines. Doing SEO on a page helps a search engine (like Google) determine how relevant your content is to a particular search. Every page gets rated according to the search engine’s opinion of its authority and usefulness to the end user. Then, using an algorithm with over 210 known factors, it orders them on a search result page. Now, I have to make it clear that doing SEO on a website does not guarantee that you will be on the first page immediately. It is a long-term commitment and Google, especially, takes its time. You also have to factor in the amount of competition in your industry, how long they have been working on optimizing and improving their website.
Be active on Social Media
Social Media can be a wonderful tool to create awareness about your business. The key is to be consistent and follow the best practices. Just like Google, all the social media platforms have their own algorithms to determine how relevant your content is to a user. If you do it right, you will generate more click-throughs to your website. This, in turn, will indirectly give you a better score on a search engine over time.
Directory listings
The more you can get seen, the better. There are general directories, and there more specialized directories for most industries. Listing your business in a business directory can lead to increased visibility with Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. If you get listed in a trusted directory, your business will have a greater chance of showing up higher in search results, and you’ll receive more organic traffic to your website.
Blogs
Once you’ve done all of the above your next step will be to start adding your insights into blog posts. There are several benefits blogs offer you:
- It gives you content for your Social Media Posts.
- You have more opportunities to rank for related keywords for a particular service, boosting your SEO.
- You can show potential clients your knowledge base and offer insight into the way your business works.
- If your content is of a high quality, you can build backlinks which is one of the most important factors in SEO.
